Working party
The Cubs have recently started using some of the areas in the new extension, with Thursday's meeting having a number of groups preparing displays for the pre-launch evening later this month (see below). As work has advanced quickly on the internal fitting out of the building, we're now at a stage where we need to paint all the walls and ceilings before the final plumbing and electrical fittings are put in place.
Yesterday, a team of 11 volunteers from Otley Chevin Rotary Club, together with a team of Scout Leaders started work on the painting of walls and ceilings and managed to get a coat of paint applied throughout. This was a fantastic effort and has already made considerable difference to the appearance of each room in the new building.
This coming Saturday, 19th November, we're organising a working party for all our parents, volunteers and leaders to get a few more tasks completed in the new building as move towards full use of all the rooms.
We're after your help on Saturday during the morning session (anytime between 9:30am til 1pm) or the afternoon session (1pm til 4:30pm). Even if you can only manage an hour or two, your help will be greatly appreciated.
There's several jobs to do on Saturday including the following:
- Emulsion paint to all walls and ceilings
- Gloss paint to internal doors
- Cleaning and tidying of the main meeting hall
- Transferring kit from the storage container in the yard to the new store room
- Removing unwanted kit and rubbish and taking to Ellar Ghyll
If you can join us on Saturday, it would be really useful if you could bring any of the following items:
- Painting brushes, rollers and ladders
- Trailer to transport waste to Ellar Ghyll
- Tool kits to construct shelving units for the store room
- Gardening type gloves for moving items in the yard
A list will be put in the hall at the end of Cubs for parents to put their names down to let us know which session you could come along to and give us a hand, along with any equipment you can provide. If you are able to tell me before Thursday, please send me an email and I'll add you name to the list.
Pre-launch event
We're planning a pre-launch for the new Chevin Community Centre on Wednesday 30th November, starting at 6:30pm. All Cubs and their parents and families will be invited to join us for the evening. This will hopefully be a great chance to see the new building after the various tasks have been completed at the working party on Saturday 19th. The Cubs will be unveiling a display in the new Chevin Community Centre and there will be competitions for all members of our Scout Group to enter.
If you can help with the working party, we'd be grateful for any time yuou can spare. Please drop me a line to let me know when you can come along and any equipment you can bring with you.
