Bag Packing News

E-mail Print PDF
Dear Cubs, parents, family and friends,

I write with great news following our recent bag pack fundraising event. Over Thursday 30th and Friday 31st December, we collected over £2,800 from the generous shoppers in Otley's Sainsbury's store! This is a phenomenal achievement and event beats last year's total of £2,767 - an amount we bagthought would be impossible to match as this was raised on the pre-Christmas weekend, usually the busiest weekend of Sainsbury's year.

Both myself and the rest of the leaders would like to thank all the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, parents, families and friends who came along to support us over the weekend. We're extremely grateful to the 12 Beavers, 18 Cubs, 10 Scouts and in excess of 30 parents who turned up with such enthusiasm to assist with our fund raising effort. It was the first time the Beavers had joined this fund raising event and we were grateful to have their help, with their 'cuteness' being noted by the unsuspecting shoppers who parted with money upon arrival at the store when greeted by a Beaver and leader/parent and then again when the Cubs and Scouts did such a good job of packing their bags at the tills!

I'd also like to thank the Cubs and Scouts for their efforts with a number helping in shifts totalling over 6 hours during both days.

Fund Raising Update

Another £1,000 has gone into the fund raising pot with two grants received. The first is from a local grant awarding organisation, The Denton Charitable Trust who have kindly donated £500 towards our renovation project. The second is a further grant of £500 from Ernst & Young. Our Cub Leader, Trevor Oates, obtained the grant from his employer as a donation towards the time he gives to the Scout Group on a voluntary basis each week.

If anyone else is able to assist with a grant from their employers please let the fund raising team know by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We would be pleased to hear from any parents, friends and supporters of the Scout Group.

We hope to be updating the fund raising page again later this month following our next fund raising event, a car wash at Elisabeth Svendsen Trust donkey sanctuary in Eccup on Sunday 19th July. We hope all Beavers, Cubs, Scout, parents and supporters can help us with car washing on the 19th July as we look to continue our good fund raising work towards our re-developed Scout Building.

Dear parents, friends and supporters of 2nd Otley Scout Group

I have been asked to forward onto you all the email below by one of our Cub parents, Elise Scott, who has recently been appointed as the new Treasurer for our Scout Group.

Elise is planning to run the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday 31st May and has kindly offered to raise money for the proposed new extension to our Scout building. Elise and the rest of the 2nd Otley Scout Group would be delighted if you were able to sponsor her as she attempts to complete 26.2 gruelling miles by pounding the streets of Edinburgh.

You can donate to Elise's fund-raising effort through the Just Giving website.

I hope you will be able to support Elise in this fantastic show of support for our Scout Group and wish her luck in her efforts on 31st May.

Many thanks,

Hello

Hope you are well.

I'm taking part in the Albert Bartlett Edinburgh Marathon 2009 on 31/05/2009 to raise money for 2nd Otley Scout Group and I'd really appreciate your support.  We are attempting to raise money to upgrade our hall which currently has outside toilets and a dilapidated kitchen!

It's easy to sponsor me online by credit or debit card - just go to my Justgiving page:

http://www.justgiving.com/2ndotleyscouts

Justgiving sends your donation straight to The Scout Group and automatically reclaims Gift Aid if you're a UK taxpayer, so your donation is worth even more. I hope you'll join me in supporting The Scout Group.

Thank you.

Elise.

Let the FUNdraising begin!

As we heard at the Annual Meeting, we now have the necessary planning permission to move forward with the plans to improve and extend the scout headquarters.

The planning permission lasts for 3 years, so this is how long we have to raise the required funds.

The current estimate is £150,000.

Funds at present stand at a healthy £25,000 - not an insignificant sum, but a long way short of the target.

To this end we all need to focus our thoughts on the fundraising initiative. Any ideas would be welcome. We especially need to seek out significant funding from sources such as the National Lottery Commission, from major employers, from local authorities and development agencies etc.
