For those who are following Felix's Gap Year we have just heard from him that the trip has been a great success. They return to West Yorkshire on the 28th November 2010.
Felix left Bradley Wood, the County Campsite, for Nepal with 35 Scout Leaders from across West Yorkshire on the 5th November. Their task was to build a much needed school house for secondary age children in a remote Nepalese village. The team travelled to Kathmandu then onto Purano Dewar in the Lamjung District of Nepal. After a trek to the village they built the school house from local materials. The existing school house was badly damaged by the weather. The school has about 250 secondary age pupils and virtually no facilities. Many of the pupils only attend school some days as they also have to work in the fields to help support their families.
Each team member has had to raise £2,000 to cover the costs of travel and living and also to pay for tools and building materials. They took with them educational equipment and materials to help equip the school.
