Here's a quick missive about Wednesday's meeting and beyond. To summarise...
· Packed rucksack on Wednesday night, please
· Is your Scout coming on the night hike Friday 18th February?
· Is your Scout coming on camp 11th – 15th April?
· Have you returned your Scub's info form?
Wednesday 19th January – bring your night-hike rucksack
Taking a group of Scouts out on the moors on a winter's night is a heady responsibility, and we want to make sure that their kit is up to the job. They were all warned that we'd expect them to bring a rucksack packed for a night hike this Wednesday, so here's the kit list to help them. Don't worry about the stuff in bold (change of clothes, wash kit, trowel) – we mainly want to make sure that their warm clothes, footwear and waterproofs are up to the job, and to find out where the gaps are in their equipment so they've got time to prepare for the night-hike and for camp.
And yes, there'll be some fun stuff too, and new patrols in our big shake-up.
Friday 18th February – night hike
Don't stray off the path... A troop of Scouts, a desolate moor, a full moon – what could possibly go wrong? Fear not, you have a leadership team with extensive winter walking experience, and we promise not to bring your child back until at least midday on the Saturday. There will be the usual 2nd Otley twists to liven up the hike and it'll be well cheap. More details to follow, but for the time being, could you have a word with your son/daughter so that we can get an idea of numbers by next week?
Monday 11th – Friday 15th April – Easter camp
We were well impressed with how well our Hard Core Camp went in September – virtually the whole troop came. Well, we've consulted with our year 9 Scouts, as this is likely to be their last camp, and they've said that they want more of the same, but this time at Hawkhirst Adventure Camp. "Let's build our own Total Wipeout course!" they said. And since when did we fail to rise to a challenge like that?!?
We're experimenting with a new thing for us – a 5 day camp – and planning to solve holiday childcare/activity problems for a whole lot of Scouting parents as well. Again, we need to know numbers to make sure that it's viable. So, have a look at your calendar and have a talk to your Scout, and let us know if they're thinking about coming. You don't have to make a firm commitment at this time, but we need to know that we can get the numbers before we book it. I'm suffering from post-Christmas financial stress and have two children to pay for, so you can guarantee that it will be as affordable as possible.
Scubs information forms
Thanks, Alistair – if you have an emergency I can contact your folks! However, I still need information forms back for the other Scubs – can we have them on Wednesday? If you brought it back but it hasn't managed to make its way to me, please let me know.
Thanks,
