jimmysavilleThanks to all the Scouts who represented 2nd Otley in the Torch Race on Friday. We came 3rd (not 2nd as I originally thought), but a damned close 3rd, just behind Burley (the winners for the last heavens knows how many years). It was a really good run and everyone did us proud.

As I write, I'm munching on a cup cake from Saturday, when Jimmy Savile unveiled the new Scout Hut foundation stone. I've attached John Morgan's photos of both events and hope that you enjoy them. The remaining cup cakes went to the folks at Teal Beck House round the corner and were much appreciated.

It's been a busy month for Scouts, so you'll probably be relieved that there are no extra events for a while... until June!

Forthcoming events...

Otley Carnival Saturday 18th June – we'll have our usual float. Ideas for the theme so far have included Halloween in June (with zombies!), Lord of the Rings, Superheroes and Surreal Cardboard Boxes (it works, trust us). It's the last time for George, Eva, Charlotte, Dan, Adam & Peter, so their input is most welcome.

It's Otley Cycle Race on Wednesday 22nd June, so we're planning a joint meeting with Parish Scouts on Tuesday 21st June instead. And following feedback from Scouts at our recent Scout Forum meeting, we'll try to see if we can fit in a football event.

2nd Otley Fun Hike – this family event is currently planned for Sunday 26th June. I'm awaiting final confirmation of details from Trevor.

If we can fit in a July camp, we will. Let us know if your Scout is keen and there are any particularly good/bad weekends.

Looking ahead to Wednesday 20th July, we're planning a bye-bye barbecue on the Chevin to celebrate our older Scouts moving on. Parents will be most welcome.

Just a quick reminder about meetings...

We have no fresh water on site, so Scouts need to bring a bottle of water with them, or else go thirsty when we're running round.

Suitable shoes for going up the Chevin, please – we'll be using the light nights to their full advantage.

9.15pm finish during the summer months.

As ever, if you have any questions, you know where I am.

Cheers,

Emma
