Four Generations of the Burrows/Jackson family
Charlotte Burrows is the 4th Generation of our family to have a connection with 2nd Otley.
Charlotte's Great Great Uncle, Raymond Jackson who was born in 1917, was a member of the 2nd Otley Cubs and later Scout Troop. He played an important role as bugle player and side drummer.
Charlotte's Granddad, Gordon Jackson who was born in 1931, was a Cub at 2nd Otley for 4 years going on to become a Scout for 1 year. His Leader was Mr. Cowling, and his uniform was a grey knitted sweater, grey neckerchief and a cap, on the sweater and cap was a wolf badge. He can remember Mr Holmes, lovingly referred to as "Chiefy", walking around Otley in his uniform. I myself remember his sister, who lived on Cambridge Terrace, as a lovely old Lady with a very interesting house, it was like stepping back in time.
Charlotte's Uncle, George Jackson who was born in 1958, was a Cub at 2nd Otley. He became a sixer and had 2 yellow bands on his arm. His first uniform was grey, which was later changed to green.
Charlotte Burrows, born 1996, has been a Cub at 2nd Otley and is now a Scout. She is the first female member of our family to do so, and also the only one to use the current Scout/Cub/Beaver headquarters. However, we have some connection with the building before it was used for the Scouts. Charlotte's Great Granddad George Jackson attended Sunday School there as a boy, which was then known as the little mission, and his Sister Mary Jackson who was Charlotte's Great Great Aunt had her wedding reception there in the 1920's. The Jackson family lived at 1 Craven Street, so it was a handy place to hold family events. It would be really nice to see it used again as a community meeting place.
