Otley Carnival

Well done to all who helped continue our centenary year celebrations by taking part in the Otley carnival float.
Everyone looked fantastic in their historic Scout uniforms kindly loaned by the County Archive. Some uniforms dated back to 1910.
Despite the hailstorm and torrential rain we still managed to raise the roof of the float with rousing renditions of The Eskimo Song and Hiya Watha (which I couldn't do for laughing) and we even finished the parade in sunshine.
We can be very proud of ourselves because our float received a Highly Commended Award.
Well done all

The 2nd Otley Scout Group is the only organisation, apart from schools, to take part in every Otley Carnival.
This year our float celebrates 100 years of the 2nd Otley Scout Group and beyond.
We intend to create a Scout campsite scene including a tent, flag pole and campfire.
Also we have been able to borrow some historic scout and cub uniforms which can be worn on the day. The uniforms include all sections and some are over 100 years old!
We will be finding people to fit the uniforms over the next few weeks.
If you're lucky enough to fit a uniform you will need to bring a change of clothes with you on the day. If you don't fit an old uniform then maybe try doing something space age to your uniform.

As promised at last week's meeting, please find attached details of our Centenary Group camp taking place over the weekend of 5th to 7th July.
This will be the first Cub Camp this year. With 2nd Otley celebrating its Centenary year, we wanted to make it a memorable occasion with an element of challenge so there will be an opportunity for the Cubs to take part in a walk up Ingleborough on Saturday 6th July, one of the Yorkshire Dales Three Peaks and one of the peaks that forms part of 2nd Otley's 100 Peak Challenge.
If your child would like to attend the camp, please complete the attached permission form and return it along with payment to a Cub meeting before Thursday 20th June, although sooner if you can.
As part of our challenge to climb Ingleborough, we're on the lookout for an adult who holds a Mountain Leadership qualification.

Family Treasure Hunt
Just a quick reminder that as part of 2nd Otley Scout Group's Centenary celebrations, we are holding a family treasure hunt this Wednesday (8th May). The evening will start at 6:30pm finishing at 8pm. Parents and family are encouraged to join us for the evening.
The treasure hunt will set off from the Scout building and is based around different areas of Otley. Treasure Hunt teams can be family groups or a number of families can join together.
When the treasure hunt has finished, we will gather back at the Scout building for a barbecue and refreshments with the treasure hunt winning team being announced. Hot dogs and drinks (including beer and wine for adults) will be available. Donations on the evening will be welcome.
