Volunteer with us

Adult volunteers make Scouts happen. Whether you'd rather be on a campsite or behind the scenes — there's a role that suits the time you can give.

Working with young people
Section leaders, assistant leaders, occasional helpers, young leaders.

Plan and run a weekly programme of games, badges, activities and adventures. You don't need scouting experience — we'll train you, and you'll work alongside our experienced leaders.

Most volunteers help for a couple of hours one evening a week, plus the occasional camp or outing. Some come every week, some come once a month — both are valuable.

Supporting the group
Trustees, treasurer, secretary, fundraising, premises, comms.

Behind every great section is a team keeping the lights on — managing finances, looking after the building, running fundraising appeals, handling governance.

Many of these roles are a few hours a month, often from home. Particularly useful for parents whose children are already in the group — a great way to give something back without committing to a weekly evening.

What's involved

  • All adult volunteers join through Scouts UK and complete an enhanced DBS check — we'll guide you through it.
  • Training is free and split into short modules — you start helping straight away while you complete it.
  • You don't need to commit forever. Tell us how much time you can give, and we'll find a role that fits.
